Funny thing is I didn't think I would like them when I first saw them. I thought the back and forth ska-punk thing was a bit much. The first time I saw them play, Mitch came up to me after their set and asked what I thought about the band. I didn't want to be a dick so I said that they were ok but I wasn't a huge fan of ska-punk. Mitch genuinely listened to my opinion about what I thought and said that he could see how I felt. He wasn't mad at all and gave me a flyer for their next show. That was the beginning of my friendship with Mitchell Eagle.

The more I saw them play, the more I liked them until it reached the point where I was more into it then anyone else in the crowd sometimes. Mitch, Walt and Donnie were some of the nicest guys I'd ever met. The way Donny played bass was amazing. He plays with his fingers and keeps a solid beat, all while singing. I don't know how he does it. Walt on drums was great to watch because he just keeps getting faster and faster as the set wears on. He never seemed to tired, he just took off his shirt and somehow managed to play even faster. Mitch's trademark guitar sound and vocals tied the whole thing together. With some of the most random clothing and hairstyles I've ever seen, Mitch was and still is one of the most interesting people I've ever met. To say the least.

In the earlier days there were so many kids dancing to Nine-Tenths that the whole room was alive. Debra recorded one of their shows and Nine-tenths released it as the Recycle Revolution DVD. Thee Imperial is almost filled to the bursting point with kids skanking and slam dancing. They were once described to me as a pseudo-political-ska-core-punk (Thanks Eddie!). Which actually describes their music and lyrics pretty well. They released 2 EPs, then combined them together for the Recycle Revolution album. After that they released their 2nd album, "Smash Hits" about a year later. Their recorded work is good but I always thought they sounded better live. They have so much energy live and that doesn't always translate onto tape. Currently they are on somewhat of a hiatus. Hopefully they stay together and release some more kickass music.

http://www.myspace.com/ninetenths
<a Long Live The Band-Aids. What a great band. Everyone in this band had such different personalities and interests in music that who would have thought that together they could make such good music. A little bit horror punk, a little bit thrash they were one of the best bands to ever come out of Jacksonville. Thats of all time, not just in the last few years. They only released one EP and one album and I wish there was more.

http://www.myspace.com/bandagepunk

Screaming At The Youth
verse
i dont say i wont go anyhere
you dont see that im walking
dont say my words dont mean a thing
someones going to hear me talking
chorus
screaming at the youth
im not the average im the difference
screaming at the youth
going to prove to you im not incorrect
verse2
as your mouth drops
and your eyes pry open
i am not snot
im just outspoken
BREAK
i wont ever end up like you the example you set
is a fucking nightmare of a closed mind filled with regrets

Mind Candy
mainstream music on the radio
repeats itself in monotone
over used and overblown
are the sounds of media clones
mind candy
overplayed tunes dont have a soul
eaten up obese its getting old
copied for the public subject noise to get out
subliminal messages you dont know about
mind candy
sticky on the ears
chocolate melting to my nerves
gum stuck in my head
it has been heard
mind candy
trapped in the coating
media is bliss
caught up in their sugar
you fall to censorship
-Becca

Line Up
Becca - Vocals
Mitch - Drums
James - Guitar
Van - Bass

Discograpy
Demo
Healing Wounds EP
Graveyard Lullabies

This is there first demo recorded in my old house at Emerson by Debra. I had some of the best times of my life hanging out at Thee Imperial (RIP) with my girl listening to some good punk music. Music that the people playing it were serious about. Eddie and Josh were the first new people that I met in the "scene" which would later come to encompass all of my friends. When I first saw them, it was Eddie on guitar and vocals, Josh on vocals, Bob on drums and Cameron on bass. That lineup recorded their EP, "Courtesy of Their System" and their full length album, "What's Left of Punk?". Then Bob left and was replaced by Jake on drums. They had their album re-released with new artwork and with updated band photos even though it wasn't Jake playing. The only recorded stuff I have with Jake drumming is the very last demo they recorded at my old house with Lyle and Debra.

Cynic Society did alot of good things and I'll give them the credit, (along with Social Disease) of jumpstarting a new punk scene. Eddie booked alot of shows and he's still putting on alot of good ones (and alot of hardcore ones, I KID!). The only reason why Cynic Society started to fall apart is that the people making the music stopped liking it. If the band doesn't like their own music, no one in the crowd will be into it either.

They changed musically over their lifespan (2003-2006), from straight street punk on the first recordings to slowly encompassing a more hardcore influence. You can see really see that on their last recorded output. Their live shows reflected this too. I think they got stuck into a strange limbo where they became too punk for hardcore kids and too hardcore for punk kids. Brain Damage had just come into the scene and the first split occurred with some kids staying into street punk and the other half moving into the hardcore and thrash side of things. Sides were drawn, bla, bla and everything seemed to lose its steam. Well I have alot of good memories. I still love Cynic Society and I listen to them all the time. Oh yeah, Clay was in Cynic Society. For one show. But he was in it.

http://www.myspace.com/cynicsociety

Line Up
Eddie Lay - Guitar, Vocals
Josh Marx - Vocals
Bob - Drums
Cameron - Bass
Jake - Drums #2

Discography
"Courtesy Of Their System" EP - Self Released - August 2004
"What's Left of Punk?"
